A night out walking along the canal to Chez Papa

Last night I went out with my colleagues to Chez Papa, one of five at 206, Rue La Fayette.  I was planning on trying something a little more unique then the standard fare I've been eating, as good as everything has been.   One site says, "Chez Papa means With Dad or At Daddy's and is actually a chain of restaurants where there are five in Paris, but by going from one to another you would never actually think of them as a chain as each one all have their own individual character. The original Chez Papa and the most famous one is situated on Rue Lafayette in the 10th Arrondissement of Paris, but after it became so popular, other restaurants were opened up in different parts of the city."

I was tired, but was also getting hungry.  We took the metro out to the district and then walked along a famous canal, Canal Saint Martin, that was built in the 19th century.  There's a really informative link I found on the canal and its history.  Its here: http://www.paris.fr/english/heritage-and-sights/canals/canal-saint-martin/rub_8274_stand_34642_port_19138

Its been perfectly gorgeous weather-wise since we arrived.  Last evening it was a little cool, but nice for walking. We wanted to walk along side the canal before going to Chez Papa.  Here are some pics of the canal during my walk.

Once at the restaurant I had to finally decide what to order.  While we got that together we ordered a bottle of Chinon and "Papa" brought out some warm croutons.

I was getting hungry and it basically came down to duck, snails or cassoulel.  I opted for "Magret de canard au confit de poireaux".  It was duck that was presented sliced with a little bit of pear.  It came with a salad and fried potatoes.  The portion was really big for french standards and very filling.  Here's the way it came.

By the time we left it was getting chilly and was dark.  We hopped on the metro and back to St. Germain des Pres.
